Asian markets were sharply lower in most cases.
The Nikkei was off 1.8% to 15,794. Canon was off 1.5% to 5760. Daiwa Securities was off 2.1% to 1388. Fuji Photo was off 1.2% to 4260. Hitachi was off 1.4% to 716, Honda was off 2.3% to 3790. Japan Air was up .4% to 236. NEC was down .5% to 662. NTT was down 1.2% to 573000. Sharp was down .7% to 2005. Softbank was down 3.4% to 2145. Sony was down 1% to 4910. Toshiba was down .4% to 800. Toyota was down 1.1% to 5310.
The Hang Seng was down 1.2% to 16,940. Cathay Pacific was down .8% to 14.56. China Mobile was down 1.8% to 50.85. China Netcom was up .4% to 13.76. HSBC was down .5% to 138. PCCW was flat at 4.91. HSBC was off .5% to 138.
The KOSPI was down 1.5% to 1,334.
The Straits Times was off .6% to 2,494.
The Shanghai Composite was up .4% to 1,675.
